Can anyone tell me few things about Mountain State University, West Virginia? It seems like this university does not require GRE or GMAT for Masters? If I have completed 3 years bachelors from Nepal, will it allow me enroll for Masters directly or not. Will I need to take some undergraduate courses before I enroll in Masters. Thank you

"Will I need to take some undergraduate courses before I enroll in Masters." Somebody else can answer better about it. I was there 10+years ago. Are you not worried about other stuff like work? It's pretty bad in terms of opportunity around the campus in WV, especailly around Beckley area, if that's where it is.WV is the most raciest with the most obese population who're mostly hicks and hillbillies redneck. Careful which palce you choose.

faked, nep
I cannot believe there's so many Nepali around the place now.I'd recommend you to move someplace. There're better places in the US with better jobs even if you're on F1.
I remember how many times I was teased while I was walking to the campus, esp white girls (the hot ones)making fun of my chinky eyes. Just out of nowhere, they's stop their cars and laugh and pull their eyes. It didn't make sense in the beginning, but I got fed up after a while. Only the fat ones were the choices for me to hit on.If you come across racist people around the campus, report immediately to the police and the advisor. You have nothing to loose.
The advisor was a female and she was nice to everybody.I thought the scenery were beautiful then, well I'm at a more better place currently. Good Luck guys

Beckley seems to be a nice place. People are nice. It is a very safe place. There was only one police officer shot to death (last year) in last 32 years since 1975. It is rare in US.
It lies at a right place for example 600 miles to NY, 600 miles to Florida, 600 miles to Chicago, 600 miles to Detroit, and 300 miles to DC. Weather is always cool that is less than 90F. Recently it has become a town of about 250 young Nepalese students. Former Nepalese students who graduated from this university, are now working large banks like BOA, big companies like IBM, and others have joined big universities like Syracuse, BYU, OK, Texas for further studies. I am also hoping to follow their foot steps. I am satisfied very well with the envi here.
Those who transferred to other colleges like Norther Virginia Community College are returning back to this university, again. There are about 15 Nepalese Graduate students in various fields like Nursing and Pharmacy, and some of them have already passed the certification exams, and are getting good job offers.
Tuition fee is reasonable. All graduate students get in campus GA, and they are making almost $1000 every month. Majority of students buy cars in groups within a couple of months of arrival here. Driving late night is safe. The living cost is very low, and univ is within a walking distance. Since this is a small town, every body knows every one in the town. People are friendly. What else do you want?

I went to a college near Beckley, WV 12 years ago. Then I moved to Chicago and then to New York City and now I am in New Jersey. I have met more racist profiling in New York City than in West Virginia. That also mostly from blacks and hispanics. Personally, I have never had any problem with the rednecks in WV. Most of them were actually curious to know about Nepal. But that's just my experience. I know States like Alabama and West Viriginia are known for racist whites. May be I never met them. vj http://www.NepalNepal.com/A Nepali Community SiteStarted: Jan 2008

Hello! My $0.02 Beckley is not a bad place, although I was there when there were 8-12 of us on and off, unlike today where the number reaches ~300 from what I hear. It is a wonderful place, laid back and people were generally nice. The university itself sucks, if you want easy grades and not a whole lot of learning/ mental excersise / real college experience, this is not for you (I cannot say the same for nursing, I have friends who went to the nursing school and haven't had a whole lot of problem with the courses they offer). Computer Science is Horrible, Business is a Joke. Having said that I love MSU, I graduated out of there and so far have not had much problem carrying on careerwise with what I got out of there. It could have been better, but it definitely could have been worse. I would not pick this university for a master's degree over a dead rat. If you are a self learner and do not need professors to tell you how you can success, if you do not require career counseling, decent job fair (not the case with most people, including myself), MSU is for you. This place will allow you to graduate quicker than most other places. You can CLEP many classes and stuff. Also if you are a self motivated individual, the laid-backness of this place would mean you would learn a lot of "American" culture, if you are a social person that is, from the people in the area. With 300 people from a different place, you have to understand that the mental state of the people is Beckley is to be defensive. I would be scared if I was a native of Beckley. Blame is on human nature. It would take you longer to break the ice, but once you break the barrier, it won't be as bad. Bob Marley and vj ji, I think I have heard of you guys from someone in Beckley who apparently all of us know. let's try to get in touch if you are in the NY-Nj area. Good Luck and TAKE THE DAMN GRE, trust me you will regret not taking it after 2 years of wasted effort and mucho dinero!
