One of my friends told me that there was a college in Pennsylvania where you wouldn't have to take TOEFL to get into. I also heard that there were few students who came without writing TOEFL. Does anyone know what colleges they are? And do you think the embassy issues visa for those with no TOEFL? Please help me out!!

Short Circuirt, If You are in Nepal and trying to apply for the student visa, it is the best thing to take TOEFL. Yes, there are some college and university they will enroll you without pro. TOEFL. BUT you still have to take an institutional TOEFL which will be little easier than TOEFL. BUT it is the best thing if you just go ahead and take TOELF becasue that will make your document stronger. I did not take my TOFEL when I came here first time becasue I did not come here as a student but now I have to take TOEFL or Inst. TOEFL in order to get into the university. So eaither way you will have to have it. GOOD Luck to you

That's right, if you want to secure your visa, TOEFL is a MUST with your strong bank balance and property evaluation is plus on that. Getting visa without toefl is rare. If you are applying for community college or 2 years associates degree, getting visa is very very rare. i will say 1 out of 500 will get visa( if s/he is lucky enough). If it was 8 -10 years back, you could come here just to learn english/ESL but lots of things have changed then and now. My suggestion to you is do your TOEFL, take your time, you might need to take more than once if you don't score at least 175. there are many college and universities which will accept 175 score give the admission. Good Luck!!!

ShortCircuit they did, when I first arrived back in 92. I didn't even have Isc. degree but that was then and this is now post 911.... I would be surprised if they would give you a visa without a toefl and 12th grade or intermediate degree.... like everyone is saying, if you are in nepal you should have lots of time, give toefl and if you can give SAT too, you might just be lucky and they might offer you scholarship with your SAT score. I personally am thinking of going to nepal for a year to prepare for my GRE and take some time off from america and chill in nepal. Working and trying to prepare for GRE doesn't go hand in hand, atleast nor for me. Done that enough as an undergrad student.

Sincere thanks to all. I am already in USA. And whatever you said was exactly what I told my friend in Nepal. But apparently, he is too scared of TOEFL. And someone told him he could come without TOEFL, as well. Iin 4 years that I stayed here, I never heard of such colleges where they wouldn't ask you for TOEFL. Anyways, if you guys know the names of those colleges, please let me know. I can at least give him the names and he can go from there. But again, he might get I-20, but I doubt if he will get visa.

Short Circuit dude suggest your friend not to come to US if he is TOO SCARED OF TOEFL. This is the best suggestion for him.

ShortCircuit dude, what does your friend think,,,, the universites in america is going to teach him in nepali or whichever language he is not afraid off. If I was a good friend I wouldn't send him no school information.....unless he gave Toefl... Friends dont' let friends come to USA without a TOEFL.

I doubt that embassy will issue a visa for a student without toefl. No wonder how strong your documents are. S/he will be just wasting money by applying for a visa without a toefl ( if s/he is trying to come to the US as a student). I have to take TOEFL here now. Well, I did not come as a student so I was able to get a visa easily. Tell your friend no need to be afraid and take a toefl. They have somany inst. in ktm who will prepare for the TOEFL.
