Malaysia’s National Fatwa Council issued a ‘tomboy’ fatwah banning girls form having short hair and dressing like boys this week, in a move intended to deter girls from experimenting with lesbianism.

"It is unacceptable to see women who love the male lifestyle including dressing in the clothes men wear, said Abdul Shukor Husin, chairman of the National Fatwa Council, “It becomes clearer when they start to have sex with someone of the same gender, that is woman and woman.” (Sky News)

Perak State’s mufti Harussani Idris Zakaria admitted that the new decree is not yet legally binding though was uncompromising with his message.

“It doesn’t matter if it’s a law or not. When it’s wrong, it’s wrong. It is a sin,” Harussani told reporters. “Tomboy [behavior] is forbidden in Islam.” (Taipei Times).

Men’s Intuitive Infidelity Instinct

A new study of 203 straight couples’ affairs has revealed that while men are 50% more likely to have cheated than women (29% compared to 18.5%) they were 20% better at catching out their erring partners.

The Independent reported that men were correct about their women’s infidelity 94% of the time compared to 80% for women, prompting study chief Paul Andrews of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond to declare that men are generally more perceptive.

“We found that men tended to be honest about their affairs whereas women tended to under-report infidelities by about 10 per cent,” he told the newspaper, "Women are probably more reticent in disclosing information. They appear to be so much better at concealing their infidelity whereas men are better at detecting infidelity, based on this evidence."

The study’s findings correlated fairly closely with statistics unearthed in the Observer’s (massive) annual sex poll which last month said that 22% of men and 13% of women in relationships admitting to cheating with 71% cheating more than once. Women were also less likely to believe they’d been cheated on, the Observer added, with married people the least suspicious.

In yet another infidelity study published last week Florida-based psychotherapist Gary Neuman polled 100 faithful and 100 unfaithful husbands for his book ‘The Truth about Cheating’ and discovered that sex was rarely the reason men strayed.

“The No. 1 answer, 48 per cent, was emotional dissatisfaction at home. And that fit with another amazing statistic: 88 per cent of the men said the mistress was no better-looking or was not in better shape than their own wives,” he told Canadian newspaper the Globe and Mail, “It's not about sex. It's much more about a lack of thoughtful gestures at home,” he suggested.

Time magazine, meanwhile, dived into Ruth Smythers’ seminal 1894 marriage guide ‘Instruction and Advice for the Young Bride’ for relationship advice and unearthed some perennial advice from the Victorian sex columnist.

“Some young women actually anticipate the wedding night ordeal with curiosity and pleasure! Beware such an attitude!” Ms Smythers advised.

“One cardinal rule of marriage should never be forgotten,” she added, “Give little, give seldom, and above all give grudgingly."

Islamists Whip Revellers Into Shape

Sharia police arrested and flogged 32 people in Somalia last weekend after the 25 women and seven men were caught dancing together in a town south of Mogadishu.

Islamist spokesman Sheikh Abdirahim Isse Adow said the dance criminals were released about being whipped and explained that they’d been punished after repeatedly ignoring warnings to stay off the dance floor.

A new study of Brit’s spiritual beliefs has revealed that more people believe in aliens and ghosts than God (58% compared to 54%) with almost one in four ‘experiencing a paranormal encounter’ (Daily Mail).

Track It Down Join Facebook

London based download portal TrackItDown have teamed up with Facebook to launch a music player that allows Facebook users to create their own playlists and send each other tracks.

The new application also allows users to rank tracks and receive release alerts by favourite artists and labels and has already been downloaded by over 7,000 people, said TrackItDown chief Nolan Shadbolt.

“We’ve had people downloading the player from all over the world, in the last few minutes we have had users link up from Mexico, Brazil, Italy, Australia, Argentina, South Africa and beyond,” Nolan told Skrufff in an interview this week. “We’re delighted with the reaction so far.”

Nolan launched Trackitdown with hard dance DJ legend Ed Real from Nolan’s Bayswater basement flat in 2005 and spoke enthusiastically about the radical changes continuing to redefine the music business.

“What we’re seeing now is focused groups of people working on exciting new models and there are new standards falling into place,” he suggested.

“It's what you make it,” Nolan added, “Our sales are continually growing, so as far as we're concerned the outlook is good.”

He also spoke positively about the credit crunch, pointing out ‘the last recession gave birth to the UK's acid house and free party scene.”

“Dance music has taken an epic journey since then, if it comes full circle we'll be over the moon.
