How do you edit the content of a website? i am talking about the website created by someone else. I do have the authority to edit.

Depends on what type of website it is like static HTML, CMS, database driven ... etc. More specific would help to answer your question.

You need to install FTP-client (like Filezilla) and connect to the webserver and download the html file you want to edit. Then edit it in your local machine. Make sure you did right testing it in your local machine. Then upload back to the webserver using same FTP-client software. Hope that help you.
