Nirmala Subedi, one of the victims of Alabama Car Accident, is recovering day by day. She has still problem with speech & left hand. Her brother Dhruba Raj Subedi is also with her in Alabama. After a long treatment in Hospital & Rehab Center, she couldn't gain proper fitness. Her left part is not working properly. One of the Nepalese Student Associations (NSA) at Troy University had been active in raising funds for her help and support. It was a good initiation though! Unfortunately I got to know from her brother that she hasn't received a penny from that fund. NSA Troy claims that the fund collected for her help has been kept under the medical fund of the University. She wont get anything from that personally.
Is this fair? We have donated for her, not for Medical fund of the University. We would appreciate if she could get something from that fund for her temporary stay in Alabama till last appointment in hospital.

Yes I know... I have been talking to Dhruba so often. They are having big financial problem. Even the University is not supporting them well. Any body in Alabama, Troy ... please help them .. we are far away we wish we were there... it would be great if some body could take them to the birmingham hospital because they have an appointment for that and it is really far and Dhruba is not in a situation to rent a Taxi. so Nepali friends... please Dhruba and Nirmala......his number to call is 334-434-0866

It was dumb to deposit the money raised by well wishers in the hospital's account because it is such an insignificant amount compared to the hospital bill. Pranav Dhakal's friends raised around 30,000 dollars but they didnt give a penny to the hospital coz it was raised to help his parents get here, their living expenses and to meet Pranav's expenses after he was discharged. I heard that hospital tried to get that money but they just ognored. Pranav's hospital bill was more than 2 million dollars.

By the way, he is doing fine and still going through physical therapy. cheers !!!

If you guys are still collecting money for Nirmala Subedi, please open a different account under her name and we can deposit the money in that account.

Guys help help Nirmala as we did with Pranav. This kind of tragedy can happen to anyone. I am gonna donate some money after u (who ever is doing the fundraising) open an account under her name and assure that she gets the money(NOT THE HOSPITAL).

Panasonic, I agree with you. What about NSA, Troy?? Why they are not willing to support Nirmala in this situation with collected fund which were collected for the well-being of that girl. NSA Troy shud be more laiable to Nepalese Students rather not to the university managment for simple perosnal benefits.
I am not against NSA Troy, but I coudln't remain as such after hearing such such behaviour.

I thought the money was deposited in the Hospital Fund (I misread), since we have the money in the medical fund of the university, I dont think its impossible to go and talk to them and have that money transferred to Nirmala's account. Its the money raised by the Nepalese students and whoever goes and talks to them should make it clear that the money raised was for Nirmala and her personal expenses and not to meet the medical costs.
Chicago-Bull, do you know who is the NSA president there at Troy?

Lets take an effort and take care of this thing. We can write a letter to the University on behalf of the donors and stating our intention of that donation (For Nirmala's n her family's personal expenses and not to cover medical cost). Then the university will have no right to hold that money or put that money in their medical fund.

Guys lets take an initiative and take care of this mess.

Sabina Thapa is president of NSA Troy. We shud take inititaive as Mr. Panasonic mentioned. "We can write a letter to the University on behalf of the donors and stating our intention of that donation"... and get that money back to Nirmala. As I know, President of NSA Troy is not cooperating with Nirmala & her brother. She, along with the Troy univ. management want to let them go back as soon as possible. Their intention is not fair. Nirmala still has appointment to visit the hospital and she is not feeling well now. In this situation I think its not go back immediately.

I think all the donors should pressure Sabina as well as Troy Univ otherwise we want our money back so that we can give it directly to Nirmala.

I know couple people there who have in fact donated for this cause. I am going to talk to them asn ask them to go and talk to the University and Sabina. I want to talk to Dhruba Raj Subedi first to have an idea on whats really going on at the moment.
Ya, I agree, we should definately do something for Nirmala. Going back to Nepal now is not an option at all. Nirmala's parents have already spent a lot of money to send her over here and she has worked hard to pay for the expensive college fee. She deserves a full and complete treatment here. If she is to go back to Nepal, I dont think her family will be able to afford her medical bills ( well they dont even check your pulse if you dont have money in advance in nepal). So , we should advise her and her brother not to back until she is fully treated.
The same thing happened in Pranav's case (i dont know if you are aware what happened with Pranav), but he is fine now and started going to college from the last semester. Nirmala can do the same. Study here, get a degree and work for couple years, make money and go to Nepal if you need to. I would'nt give a damn to credit history, who cares if you dont plan to stay here forever.

Panasonic,.... I hope the example you mentioned about Pranav's case will help to get money back from Troy university's health fund and support financially to help Nirmala regain her health.

I personally had donated in this fund hoping that the money i donated would go in Nirmala's account and i was quite upset after hearing that she didnot even got a penny from this fund. That's dumb!! I talk with Dhruba often as he is my friend , and i have been felt so bad hearing that he is getting hard time there financially and also to go to hospital on taxi. I wish i was there to help him as i am in Minnesota here. I request everybody around there in Troy to please come forward and help Nirmala to gain her health and become able to go back to school.

The student/people or Sabina Thapa (president of NSA of Troy) from Troy's university, who initiated this fundraiser has certainly done a good job by raising this fund, but now its dumb that if they are giving this money back to school. The NSA or fundraiser of Troy university should understand this fact that this $3500 which has been collected for the victim's health wouldnot even cover1 or 2% of the total medical expenses. So they should help that money to go on Nirmala's personal account so she would be recovered soon and go back to school. Please, Lets help Nirmala regain her health and become able to go back to school and fulfill her dreams and not to go back home in this situation and in bad health.

I am gonna talk to Dhruba and draft a letter to Troy Univ and we will collect signatures from the donors and send it to them. Then, I believe they will have no choice but to release the fund.

P.S. Once I draft the letter, we will pass it around and all the donators can print it, sign it and then fax it to them.(i think its the most convinient method, any other feasible suggestions are welcome)

Auto insurance should also cover some part of the hospital bill. I am sure somebody must have thought about this already, but still I am curious since I couldn't see this issue brought up anywhere.
I am personally aware of such incident where the auto insurance covered the hospital bill. And it was applied to the passenger's hospital bill. Driver had only liability insurance, not even full coverage.

Panasonic and chicago , I appreciate your initiatives. If you open up Bank A/C for Nirmala agaiin than let it float in Sajha. I will also put some ammount for nirmala treatment. Anyways, I am really proud of you guys for your concerned for humanity.
