DC bro, the daffynishuns are hilarious !

On another tack, I am gratified and encouraged to see the growing body of work in the writer's guild. We have some prolific contributors emerging, and yet others testing the waters. Hopefully, the guild provides a supportive and welcome environment that encourages creativity and is inclusive of a wider range of emerging talent.

Pursuant to our conversation earlier this summer, I continue to develop the idea of a writer's workshop. Towards which end I am putting in some behind the scenes legwork. Last weekend the Smithsonian ran a South Asian writer's forum. I rushed over as soon as I heard about it, but was disappointed I missed Arundhati Roy by minutes. Neverthless, my ambitions rise yet further for our creative talent.

As we see more people overcome their inhibitions and allow their creativity free rein, I dare say the best is yet to come. And I take this opportunity to thank you for your timely comment, in another thread, and support of progressive ideas.

A great weekend to you. Cheers !

Sajha Writer's Guild has been very welcoming in giving opportunities to water-testers like me :) I dont know about others, but i need a lot of discipline to keep me moving...

Czar, the writer's workshop is a great idea. But if you want the workshop to be inclusive of Sajha writers, as you mentioned above, may be an online workshop is a better idea, provided Sajha is willing to host it. My assumption is that Sajha writers hail from different corners of the world and a regular physical workshop might be difficult if creativity keeps flowing into the Guild so rapidly :)

If the administration approves of it, Sajha can have a little section for a workshop where readers can post their comments. On a more productive note, writers can gather in a virtual room and give sincere critiques of each other's articles. Critiques that will find loopholes in their writings so they dont make the same mistakes again. If writers are seriously considering this hobby to mould it into a talent someday, I dont think they would want to be bogged down by little achievements; I bet they wouldnt mind some negative feedbacks, I wouldnt.

Like, Jewel's story. I dont have the right to comment, but just wanted to spill it out. It was very moving, sunkoshi jhandai bagya (like someone said somewhere), but that the writer kept his emphasis on mother's undivided love for her only son while her love for the daughter was completely ignored, which is kind of unnatural. And mother, father and son sitting together drinking wine was a little jerky when the readers were all the way walked through the portrayal of a motherly love.

Sitara's story (I dont dare comment) but yea, you can throw rotten eggs later :) It was a nice piece, unlike mine, it has things moving, I can see things happen, like in real life. But lacks imagery and sometimes things arent descriptive, which makes it feel like the story is pacing and has ended abrubtly.

La, mero dui paise comments, no offense to the writers.

And thank you Czar for your interest. A person who doesnt write cannot be so interested in such workshops, ani khai ta, when will we have the privilege of reading your pieces?

DCkeTa Loved it. though I had read quite a few of them before.
Here's some from my collection from the Sunday Times back in the days: :P

Girl: addition of cases, subraction of pocket money, multiplication of worries and division of friendship

Malaria: shivering caused by the doctor's bill

politician: one who's ready to give up your life for his country :P

secretary: one who can tell by the caller's name whether or not the boss is in!

education: forcing abstract ideas into concrete heads

nurse: one who wakes u up to give u a sleeping pill.

n here's my ultimate favorite :)

Dating: It all starts with hating, then after some waiting, when you are up on the rating, your first step to mating, which involves some baiting, is what they call dating :D
**********

btw, about sajha guild, I think its a great venture. Not only because of writers like dipika, MG and others, but the fact that your articles don't get lost into oblivion (archive in this instance).
